A Bit About Me
Jenn Onwenu is a first-generation Nigerian-American from Detroit, MI. Anyone who knows her will tell you, from the moment she could talk, she did not stop. Teachers, aunties, and friends all said the same thing, Jenn could talk to anyone, about anything. What they didn't know it would involve cameras, conversations, and a few viral moments along the way.
A proud Michigan State Spartan with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work, Jenn spent years helping people find solutions to life’s hardest problems, one thoughtful question at a time. Through social work is where Jenn learned the art of storytelling and connection: listen deeply, ask smart questions, and make people feel seen. (Basically, the same magic that makes for a great talk show host , just with fewer case notes.)
In 2017, Jenn launched Chi Chi Beauty Co., a hair extension company built on the tagline “Be Her”, one change can transform any woman into who she wants to be. Jenn realized this belief extended far beyond hair extensions. What started as a beauty brand quickly became a sisterhood. Her hilarious commentary on Twitter (long before it became “X”) turned casual followers into a community that came for the hair and stayed for the honesty.
Then came a major plot twist, motherhood. When Jenn welcomed her daughter Claire in 2018, she pivoted her platform toward the raw, funny realities of being a mom: sleepless nights, favorite products, and all. Her openness resonated with women everywhere who craved authenticity over perfection.
In 2021, Detroit media visionary Barry Jennings, founder of The Uprising Network, asked Jenn to relaunch his platform with a new show. She said yes, and #AskJenn was born. Within 24 hours of the premiere, it had over 2,000 views. Today, #AskJenn has become a Detroit staple, a digital information platform celebrating culture, creativity, and community through Jenn’s unfiltered lens.
Jenn’s humor and curiosity have attracted guests like World Champion Boxer Alycia Baumgardner, Glam-Aholic Lifestyle CEO Mia Ray, mental-health advocate Demetrius Harmon, and even Michigan’s own Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Every episode blends laughter, depth, and Detroit pride. While on her pink couch, Jenn believes no matter how serious or how silly, conversations should never be boring.
Part Oprah, part Mo’Nique, and all Detroit, Jenn is redefining what it means to be a modern talk show host. She’s here to make you laugh, think, and maybe see yourself a little clearer by the end of the episode.
